The Terrestrial Helix of Orbière
Orbière village is a troglodytic village located in the Saumurois (Maine et Loire) whose first traces of habitation go back to the Middle Ages and in which still lived, at the beginning of the last century, several families.
“Visiting the Hélice Terrestre or Terrestrial Helix of Jacques Warminski is a sensory journey between outside world and underground world in a monumental work sculpted in the heart of a thousand-year-old village”.
In the 70’s, Jacques Warminski, a Polish-born artist from Angers took over the then abandoned premises to create a monumental work of art, the Terrestrial Helix, in only five years, from 1988 to 1993.
Since the death of the artist in 1996, the association Artrodytespace continues its commitment to preserve and promote his work. It is committed to perpetuating the spirit of creation and freedom that inhabits the site by hosting artists and shows on the site of the Orbière.

Visiting
The site is open every day from 11 am to 7 pm. It is closed for the moment, due to the sanitary context. Provisional opening: May 15. On site you will be welcomed and informed by a volunteer of the association.
Count 1 hour to visit the whole site. But we advise you to plan a little more time; the Orbière is a place out of time where it is good to stroll and linger…
It is possible to picnic on the site and to take advantage of the refreshment bar installed in the “troglo bar”.
Program
The Orbière is also a place of artistic expression and offers an eclectic program of live shows during the opening season.
